Powder River Energy Scholarship Program
What is it?
The Powder River Energy Scholarship Program is designed to encourage and recognize the achievements of students whose parents or legal guardians are members of the Cooperative.
Who is eligible?
Eligibility is limited to the following students: Students who are graduating high school seniors attending schools within PRECorp's service area or current college undergraduate students (graduate students are not eligible). They must have parents or guardians that are PRECorp customers.
Students who live within PRECorp's service area and are home schooled through an umbrella school located within PRECorp's service area and who have parents or guardians that are PRECorp customers.
Students who have parents or guardians in PRECorp's service area that are home schooled solely under parent direction.
How much is the scholarship and how is it distributed?
The scholarships are $1,000 each. Fifty percent of the scholarship is paid with proof of enrollment as a full time student for the first semester. The remaining $500 is paid when the student enrolls for the second semester, provided a scholastic grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale has been maintained.
How are the recipients selected?
Scholarships will be awarded based on the following criteria: scholastic achievement, financial need, school Involvement, and community involvement.
All applicants must provide a minimum of one letter of reference. Letters may be from school administrators or teachers, clergy, and civic or business leaders. Letters may not be from family members.
All applicants must have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must provide a copy of their high school transcripts, SAT scores or ACT scores.
What Schools Are Acceptable?
The scholarships may be used at any accredited university, college or vocational technical center in the United States.
When Are They Awarded?
Scholarship recipients will be selected by July 1, 2010. Winners will be notified and recognized for their achievements in July and a check will be sent directly to the school in two installments - the first of which will be sent in August
How do I apply?
Students must complete a scholarship application form. Forms may be obtained from the guidance center in each high school, by downloading a form from www.precorp.coop or by calling Communications Assistant, Kelli Little at 1-800-442-3630 extension 3504 or emailing her at kellil@precorp.coop.
Completed application package may be taken to any local PRECorp office, or mailed directly to Powder River Energy Corporation, Attn: Kelli Little, P.O. Box 937, Gillette, WY 82717. All items must be submitted as one package and RECEIVED by March 1, 2010. Applications may also be faxed to 307-682-0733.
2010 Deadline - Must be RECEIVED by March 1st.
