WHOLE HOUSE SURGE PROTECTION PROGRAM
Our "Whole House" surge program provides protection from power surges and lightning by breaking down incoming voltage to approximately 800 volts. Breaking down the voltage to that level is enough to provide full surge protection for the "white goods" within the home including the washer, dryer, refrigerator, freezer, microwave and hard-wired HVAC systems. In addition, there is limited warranty coverage for those items. This warranty does not cover any electronics or other small appliances. Although the harmful voltage is being reduced before entering the home, those devices are more sensitive and require individual surge devices in order to fully protect them.
There is a $30.00 installation fee for the "Whole House" surge protection device. Installation may be paid upon receipt of an invoice or it can be added to the member's electric bill. The member must sign an agreement for a three year lease. Upon receipt of the signed agreement and installation fee the device will be installed. A lease fee of $5.00 per month will be added to the monthly electric statement. The lease continues on a month to month basis after the initial three years unless a request to discontinue is received.
If the device is damaged by a surge or lightning, Powder River Energy Corp will dispatch linemen to install a new device at no extra charge. If a surge damages the device, then damages white goods within the home, we will assist the member with filing a warranty claim.
Please note:
1) If the meter is located more than 100 feet from the home, a device must be installed at the electric panel rather than in the meter socket. Because that device is past the meter where our service ends, members purchase that device and have an electrician install it at their expense.
2) Rural members who would like surge protection for a well pump must have a secondary surge protection device installed at the well pump. Members purchase that device and pay their electrician for installing it.
Besides our Whole House program, we also sell a variety of surge protection devices for use within the home, which feature their own warranties. If the surge device is damaged by a surge or lightning we will replace it immediately and help file a warranty claim for the attached equipment, if necessary.
