Floyd attended college at Casper College and the University of Wyoming in Laramie. He has a B.S. degree in Accounting.

He began work with Tri-County Electric, now Powder River Energy Corporation, in 1982 as an Accountant. He has since held various positions within the accounting department and his current position at Powder River Energy includes responsibility for accounting department personnel management, financing activities, financial planning, payroll, preparation of financial statements, accounts payable, and accounting for construction.
